Colombia Patio Bonito Wush wush - Rare/Exclusive Filter

This is our second Wush Wush variety that we have roasted here in Lucid, this time from a new producer to us, love the flavour profiles you get with Colombia grown wush wush and this is a perfect example, fruity, super sweet and summery! 

This is a washed process and was grown by Paola Trujillo at the farm Patio Bonito in the Cauca Region of Colombia.

• Producers + Mill:

Paola was born in Pescador, a beautiful little coffee paradise located in the north of the department of Cauca, surrounded by the smell of freshly roasted coffee and peaceful natural landscapes. She studied Chemical Engineering and after her grandmother passed away she decided to return to the farm and manage it during that year's harvest. She never imagined that this would change her life.

Little by little she learned the daily activities on the farm and met more neighbors who invited her to their farms and taught her. The first year was a disaster because the prices were very low and the quality of the coffee was very bad. They had one option, “Reinvent Patio Bonito” and the way was specialty coffees. They began to work on the change by learning from many coffee-growing friends.

She had the opportunity to work with many producers from Cauca, Huila and Nariño. “It was wonderful to share experiences with them and grow together,” he says. They gave him the most important reason to love his job. With each meeting, they had a new opportunity to motivate coffee growers to work as a group, with sustainable productivity and quality. He felt very happy because he gave them a new perspective to sell coffee. He saw in their eyes the hope of a better well-being for their families and that feeling is priceless. His vision as a coffee family is to offer high-quality coffee, transparency, traceability and, above all, something made with a lot of love.

• Variety:

A variety that attracts attention not only by its wonderful name, but also by its rarity and incomparable taste: The Wush Wush variety originally comes from from Ethiopia, Like many other heirloom varieties, the variety is named after the region from which it comes. Wush Wush is a small area in southwestern Ethiopia, not far from the well-known growing regions of Jimma and Sidamo.

The area is known for its fertile highlands, resulting in an outstanding flavor that brings lots of sweetness, acidity, tropical flavours and complexity.

The journey of the Wush Wush variety is very similar to that of the Geisha variety, as it too was brought to Colombia and achieves an exceptional flavor profile due to the special climate and terroir, as well as careful growing and processing.

• Process:

This coffee was grown by Paola Trujillo at the farm Patio Bonito. This coffee is harvested following strict ripeness criteria, floated and hand-sorted to remove any defects. Cherries were then exposed to 30 hours of underwater fermentation before being pulped. The parchment was then gently washed and then dried in temperature controlled conditions until ideal moisture content was achieved.
